Productivity Report, 12th edition: a 2017 review.

To me, a year is both very long and very brief. On one hand, I feel like I fell asleep at the start of this year and woke up to find it had all passed me by. On the other hand, January 1 feels like a lifetime ago. With such a messy perception, it’s easy for me to lose track of what I’ve done and when things happened. That’s part of why I started writing Productivity Reports at the beginning of this year. The other reason is simply that I believe it’s good to reflect on what you’ve done. In the spirit of reflection, this report will cover the entire year.

This will be a long recap, but a good one. If you don’t look back once in a while, it’s easy to lose sight of where you’ve been and how far you’ve come.

Productivity Report, 11th edition.

News

My Resident Ghost chapter 1 is almost complete.
Threads chapter 5 has begun.
I am moving at the beginning of next year.

Recap

My workflow experiment for Threads has gone pretty well for me. While certain circumstances in my home life have eaten into my time, I was still able to make solid progress on the current chapter. I’m going to switch to drawing the pages the way I’ve done for this chapter, now, and start speeding up the process.

I’m working to do as much as possible before moving in January. I don’t know how much time I’ll have to work on my projects after that. A lot of changes in recent days have thrown me for a loop. I’m still working, though, and there’s a lot to do.

More information on the new short stories will be available soon.

What’s next

My Resident Ghost chapter 2 will be written soon.
The one-shots are in progress. More details soon.

Productivity Report, 10th edition: new chapter, new projects.

News

Laana Maji is live. It updates on Tuesdays.
A new story is in progress. Updates will come soon.

Recap

October was an incredibly productive month for me. I finished Chapter 4 of Threads and, even though I took a week off, I was able to build a page buffer for all of my comics. The week I took off was spent writing and thumbnailing Threads Chapter 5 and two short stories. The two short stories will be revealed after more work on them is done.

I’ve decided to try a different workflow for Threads. If it works out well, I’m going to change how all of my comics are drawn. Up until now, I’ve thumnbnailed an entire chapter and drawn the pages two at a time until they’re completed. This time around, I’m going to try drawing the pages in batches, one stage at a time (all the sketches, then all the lines, and so on). If this workflow proves faster for me, then I may be able to update my comics more than once a week.

To compare speed, I’m going to see how much I can finish by the end of this month for Threads and My Resident Ghost. I’d love to be able to update more frequently.

What’s next

Threads Chapter 5 begins next week.
Two one-shots are in progress.

Productivity Report, 9th edition: story updates.

News

Laana Maji will launch on October 18.
Fear Without A Name is discontinued.
My Resident Ghost now updates on Mondays.
A new short story is in the works.

Recap

September was really something. Because of Hurricane Irma, my house lost power for three days and was without water for a week in total. During that time, one of my cats was recovering from an infection. It made for a rather eventful start of the month, but also kept me from doing as much as I wanted. Despite that, I was able to complete a good amount while putting the house back together.

As the month waned, however, I came to a painful realization regarding Fear Without A Name: the story isn’t working for me. I don’t know where the problem lies, exactly, so I am setting this comic aside for the time being. Instead, I’m going to work on a different short story (more details coming later). When the new story is finished, I’ll go back and reevaluate Fear to see if it can be reworked into something better.

I’ve been doing some light website fiddling but the new look for my vertical theme (in use primarily for my short stories) isn’t finished yet.

What’s next

Laana Maji is on track for its October 18 launch. The website is all set to go. I have some work to do on the next short story before the full announcement can be made, but it’s definitely something to look forward to.

Productivity Report, 8th edition.

News

Laana Maji is set to launch on October 18.

Recap

MetroCon didn’t go very well for me, and after that weekend I had some catching up to do. It ended up not being as productive for my comics as desired. Still, progress was made, and I’m still on track for Laana. I’ve also slowly started designing my single-column website layout (the one used for MRGhost, Fear, and the others). I don’t have a set completion date because I’m currently doing website work for a couple other people, but it’s something else to look forward to.

What’s next

With Laana‘s impending launch and the other comics I have ongoing, as well as a lack of other engagements this month, it’s going to be a busy few weeks. I’m really excited for what’s coming up on the next chapter of Threads, and its current chapter is nearly finished. It feels like everything is coming together in these stories.
